The Alvin and Fanny B. Thalheimer Foundation

Alvin and Fanny

Our Guiding Philosophy
The Foundation’s work is rooted in tzedakah and the Jewish value of assisting people in need in a dignified way.  Through our grantmaking programs, the Foundation aims to remove structural and institutional impediments to human development and have a positive lasting effect on people’s lives.

There are some changes happening at the Thalheimer Foundation in 2017. The Board of Directors of the Foundation has undertaken a review of its grant-making to ensure that the family's philanthropic principals and values are being accurately reflected. As a result no new grants will be awarded during 2017. We encourage you to visit the website in late 2017 to view our new or revised guidelines for grant-making to determine if your organization meets the criteria for submission of a new grant proposal

We invite you to learn more about the Thalheimer Foundation, our mission and grantmaking priorities.

The Alvin and Fanny B. Thalheimer Foundation was established in 1959 to perpetuate the philanthropic tradition of its founders, who were committed to the vitality of Baltimore’s cultural, educational, civic and Jewish communal institutions.

Today, the Foundation continues our founders’ commitment to improve the lives of Baltimore residents by supporting efforts to improve quality public education, funding workforce development and job opportunity programs, providing support for the basic needs of Baltimore’s most vulnerable residents, and supporting Jewish continuity and community development in Baltimore and where family members reside, in Europe and the countries of the former Soviet Union.
